Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk to activate yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup mixed dried fruits
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup rum
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. 1Mix yeast with warm milk and set aside until foamy.
  2. 2In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  3. 3Add butter, rum, and foamy yeast. Knead until smooth.
  4. 4Fold in dried fruits and nuts. Let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. 5Shape into a loaf, place on baking sheet, and let rise again.
  6. 6Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35-40 minutes. Cool and dust with powdered sugar.
